Artist Kimberly Starr founded Scary Stuff Under My Bed in 2011 after noticing an uninspiring trend in commercial Halloween decor. She believes that Halloween decor should have the same, somewhat heirloom quality that is found in vintage Halloween and Christmas decor. Her artistic background began when she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. She spent countless hours using papier mache to build props for film, television, theatre, etc. and soon realized that anything from her imagination could be brought to life with paper. With her love of Halloween combined with her love of papier mache and imagination, Kimberly has been able to bring to life all of the happy memories of her childhood.
As a person who always strives for excellence, Kimberly recently began to study advanced techniques for papier mache sculpting, apprenticing with French paper artist Laetitia Mieral. In the summer of 2018, Kimberly took a trip to France to study one-on-one with her mentor. Each year Scary Stuff Under My Bed brings one of a kind, hand crafted Halloween decor for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.
