Arts Huntsville and LHS Creative Writing Magnet Students bring Invisible Poetry to Streets of Huntsville

Huntsville, AL – Arts Huntsville and the Lee High School Creative Writing Magnet are teaming up to bring invisible poetry to the streets of Huntsville. Original poems by Michelle Sisson’s creative writing students have been painted on the sidewalks of two Huntsville communities and the Lee High School campus. The poetry, however, will remain invisible until made wet.

“The temporary nature of these artworks creates an exciting way for people to engage with the arts as we move into the fall and winter, “said Allison Dillon-Jauken, executive director of Arts Huntsville. “Through this project, we’re also able to celebrate Huntsville’s arts magnet programs and the great creativity we find in schools across the region each day.”

Arts Huntsville worked with the City of Huntsville Department of Landscape Management to identify central locations for the students’ work. The poems were painted using biodegradable water-repellent spray paint and can be found around the downtown Huntsville Square, intersections around the Huntsville Hospital District and on the Lee High School Campus.

“I am so very excited that the entire Huntsville community has the opportunity to experience my students’ talent,” said Michelle Sisson, teacher of the Lee High School Creative Writing Magnet. “We loved working with Arts Huntsville coupled with the chance to get out of the classroom and enjoy the city.”

The biodegradable water-repellent spray paint gradually fades over the course of four months. Arts Huntsville encourages the public to snap a photo of the poetry when they see it, post on social media and tag @artshuntsville on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
