Calling All Artists! Three Open Public Art Calls in Huntsville
Arts Huntsville is pleased to announce that three open calls are currently underway, offering public art opportunities for talented artists in the region.
District 4 Park Public Art Sculpture Projects:
Two separate calls are open for Alabama-based sculpture artists to create impactful public art pieces for Jim Marek Park and Mayfair Park, thanks to support from District 4 Council Member Bill Kling.
- Jim Marek Park: This charming community park, dedicated to a local champion who sought to beautify Huntsville, seeks a sculpture that complements its serene atmosphere. Artists are encouraged to propose works that enhance the park’s existing features, with a preference for installations on the west edge of the park.
- Mayfair Park: This historic park, which once served as the site of Huntsville’s first airport, invites artists to submit proposals for sculptures that resonate with its unique past. A location near the entrance between the pavilion and the playground is highly recommended.
Both Jim Marek Park projects offer a budget of up to $25,000 and include all expenses, including the cost of a 16 square foot pad (if required). Both of these calls request Artsit-Driven Proposals, with a submission deadline of March 21st.
Public Art Opportunity for Southeastern Women Artists:
The Junior League of Huntsville is seeking a talented female artist from the southeastern region to create a vibrant artwork on the south end of the Central City Parking Garage for the Junior League Legacy Project. This prominent downtown location will showcase the selected artist’s work on the opposite side of the garage that features the existing artwork, “This Girl Can” by Tennessee artist Kim Radford.
Eligible artists must submit their qualifications by February 28th. Three qualified finalists will then be invited to submit a proposal.
These exciting opportunities offer a chance to contribute to the artistic landscape of Huntsville and leave a lasting legacy for the community.
